Sylvia Huckerby has been painting for more than ten years. Primarily self taught, Sylvia has developed a bold and fluid technique which results in canvasses with an exuberant and impressionistic style.
Working in acrylic and palate knife, her colourful paintings capture the light and energy of her favourite subjects: luminous prairie landscapes from her native Saskatchewan, luscious fruits that exude life and character; the vibrant fall colours of Ontario and western Quebec; and a friend’s tranquil waterfront garden in eastern Ontario.
Sylvia's paintings hang in private collections across Canada, in the US and overseas.
Sylvia attributes her grandmother, a talented amateur artist, with raising her awareness and interest in painting.
“A large charcoal drawing of three apples by my grandmother always hung in her dining room and now hangs in mine. It was no doubt the beginning of my fascination with the form and colour of fruit.”
Sylvia also credits her friends and family, and in particular the encouragement of her daughter, Kyla, with her successful development as a painter.
Sylvia aims to hold one to two private shows every year and focuses on commissions and developing her work in between shows.
